The global economy is undergoing profound structural change. Geopolitical conflict, shifts in trade and economic policy, technological competition, and the reorganization of global production and supply chains are increasingly intertwined. As economic relations become more closely linked to security, technology, and finance, geoeconomics has become an essential perspective for understanding the evolution of international economic relations. Examining the mechanisms, transmission channels, and consequences of these changes is critical to understanding the trajectory of the world economy and the new challenges facing global economic governance. These developments are also reshaping the scope and context of international economics. The deepening interplay among trade, investment, growth, industrial policy, finance, technology, production networks, and global governance is raising a new set of empirical and theoretical questions for the field.
The annual conference series on International Trade Disputes, the Reshaping of Globalization, and New International Economics—held for eight consecutive years since 2018—will broaden its scope in 2026. The 2026 Conference on Geoeconomics and New Trends in International Economics (GNIE2026) is scheduled for December 4–6, 2026, at Tsinghua University.
The conference comprises academic paper presentations and a teaching workshop. The research sessions will continue the series’ engagement with frontier topics in international trade, international finance, and the reshaping of the global order, while also examining the new patterns, mechanisms, and trends emerging in a geoeconomic context. Discussions will focus on international trade and finance, growth, global value chains, technological change, economic security, and global economic governance. In addition, the conference will offer a dedicated teaching workshop, “Great-Power Competition and the Restructuring of the World Order,” for instructors teaching at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. The workshop aims to advance the development of China's independent knowledge system in international economics.
The conference will offer both in-person and online participation. Paper presenters and discussants based in mainland China are required to attend in person. Participants in the teaching workshop may attend either in person or online. We encourage in-person participation so that attendees can join discussions on research and teaching at Tsinghua. In-person participants will receive complimentary textbooks and other teaching materials. Online places are subject to meeting-capacity limits; please submit the registration form as early as possible.

II. Teaching Workshop on “Great-Power Competition and the Restructuring of the World Order” | December 6, 2026
Tsinghua University introduced its undergraduate general education course “China–US Trade Disputes and Globalization Restructuring” in 2019, followed by the master’s-level course “International Trade and Financial Disputes” in 2020 and the doctoral-level course “Advanced International Trade and Financial Disputes” in 2021. As of 2026, these courses have been offered for eight, seven, and six consecutive years, respectively.
This one-day workshop will draw on Tsinghua’s full suite of teaching resources across these three levels, including syllabi, textbooks, readings, assignments, examinations, and term papers. It is intended primarily for faculty teaching international trade, international finance, area studies, and related subjects, and is also open to other instructors interested in geoeconomics, great-power competition, and the reshaping of the world order. The program will combine faculty training with discussion and exchange on teaching practice.
